Protective and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACE) Knowledge Exchange

The Protective and Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACE) Knowledge Exchange, is set to take place virtually on November 25^th, 12:00-3:30 EST. This event will include a short presentation concerning PACEs, followed by a group discussion to set priority areas where PACEs could be applied to Arctic Indigenous youth mental wellness and expanded in a circumpolar context. This event will launch the SDWG’s work on PACEs, serve as a brainstorming session, and will prepare us for a fulsome PACE Forum at Arctic Circle 2022. Attendees will include community organizations and Arctic youth engaged in mental wellness advocacy, as well as researchers working on or interested in protective and adverse childhood experiences and Indigenous Arctic youth wellbeing. This session will explore various dimensions of renewable energy in the Arctic, including perspectives from local and Indigenous communities, private and public sectore and the Arctic Council's Sustainable Development Working Group.

Seminar on Strengthening Region-Building through Multilevel Governance and Interregional Cooperation: Urban Sustainability through the Arctic Mayors’ Forum

The SDWG's Co-Vice Chair, Sólrún Svandal, will participate as a speaker in this seminar, which will focus on the role of municipalities in Arctic governance.

The issues discussed during the seminar include but are not limited to:

• Platforms supporting cross- and trans-border cooperation between/among the Arctic and northern cities.
• What kinds of challenges are Arctic and Northern cities facing and what has been achieved through multilateral and bilateral cooperation between Arctic, Northern and non-Arctic cities?
• What are the motivations and aims of the city-level cross-border cooperation?
• How can the Arctic Council accommodate cities in Arctic governance? How Arctic municipalities want to be heard within the Arctic Council?

Eurasian Women's Forum 2021

The SDWG's Gender Equality in the Arctic III Project (GEA III) will be profiled during a session entitled Women’s Dialogue on Developing the Arctic on Friday, 15 October from 12:30 to 1400 MSK. Presentation of Food Security Initiatives in Gwich'in Communities

Join Gwich'in Council International for a presentation on food security initiatives in Gwich'in communities in Canada and Alaska. Rena Squirrel has been working on the SDWG Project: Arctic Food Innovation Cluster and wants to share her research with you!

Northern Sustainable Development Forum

The SDWG's project Digitalization of Linguistic and Cultural Heritage of Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic is profiled in two sessions. One session that provides an overview of the project and another focused specifically on Intellectual Property Rights and Digitalization of Arctic Indigenous Peoples Language and Culture. Roundtable on Resilience of Indigenous Peoples, Cities and Businesses in the Arctic

The Russian Federation's new Chair of the Social, Economic and Cultural Expert Group (SECEG) hosts a Roundtable on Resilience of Indigenous Peoples, Cities and Businesses in the Arctic. This event took place as part of the an emergency response exercise organized by the Russian Federation in Murmansk from 7-8 September. Learn more HERE.
